Bastides and mas, these are two traditional Provence buildings and they are two reference models.  Au Temps des Bastides, house builder in Provence, builds these two types of houses, in the traditional way and with optimal comfort.
Bastide (country house)

Master house used only for living in. Square plan, 4-slope roof, south facing, and reception rooms on ground floor with hall containing a monumental staircase, rooms upstairs. Substantially high ceiling. Large windows. Side-hung double-leaf front door in the centre of the house front.

Mas (farm house)

Originally a farm building including stabling and living quarters. Long in shape, two-slope roof and south facing. Rooms in a row, fairly low ceiling, small openings. Single front door to the side.

When building your private home in Provence, you will have a choice between one or other of these building styles, the Provençal bastide or mas.
